In a win for Tasmanian retailers and testament to the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s Plan to grow the State’s economy, the ABS has today confirmed retail trade is now a record $558 million per month.
This is $100 million more per month than when we came to Government in 2014.
In the month of September 2019, retail trade in Tasmania grew at the second highest rate in the country, at 0.4 per cent in trend terms - double the national growth rate of 0.2 per cent over the month.
This is fantastic news for our retailers, particularly as they prepare for the busy summer season ahead.
The Tasmanian economy is ranked the second strongest in the nation, according to CommSec State of the States and our economy is growing the fastest in the country.
Under a Hodgman majority Liberal Government 15,000 jobs have been created.
But we know there is more to do to make sure all Tasmanians feel the benefit of a strong economy and that is why we are committed to delivering our Plan for Tasmania to invest in the infrastructure and essential services our growing state needs.
This is in stark contrast to Labor and the Greens who have no credibility on the economy, and when in Government together, drove the State’s economy into recession with 10,000 Tasmanians losing their jobs.
