New Development for Bruny Island Lighthouse

22 November 2019

The latest exciting development through the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s rigorous and transparent EOI process will progress to lease and license negotiations.

The Bruny Island Safaris’ proposal for Cape Bruny Lighthouse Station will protect and repurpose three existing heritage buildings, providing visitor accommodation, a caretaker’s cottage and a visitor’s centre/café.

The development will enhance visitor experiences with interpretive signs, tours and provision of all-terrain vehicle to provide a free shuttle service from the booking office to the lighthouse.

As part of the proposal, the proponent, Craig Parsey who is a reputable and experienced operator, would take on the responsibility for managing the lighthouse.

The business is expected to employ 10 full time equivalent staff, while injecting $180,000 directly into the local economy during development and initial operations.

To date the EOI process has delivered world class walks, eco-accommodation, bike trails and mountain bike parks in our Parks and Reserves.

Tasmanians can be proud of these developments, which respect and protect our unique environmental and cultural values while attracting visitors from interstate and overseas, growing the value of our economy and creating jobs for Tasmanians, many in regional areas.

This Government has a plan to make Tasmania the eco-tourism capital of the world and we will continue to back tourism operators who are willing to put up their own resources in order to develop sensitive and appropriate tourism ideas in our National Parks, reserves and Crown Lands.
