The Hodgman majority Liberal Government welcomes today’s Tasmanian Government Fiscal Sustainability Report, released by Treasury, which confirms our finances are strong and our Plan is working.

The report shows the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s Budget is on track to deliver our election commitments, with forecast surpluses across the forward estimates to ensure we have the flexibility to manage cost pressures, such as in Health, or unforeseen events.

The Report reinforces the need for the Government to remain fiscally responsible and deliver on its announced efficiency dividend.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is living within its means and spending less than we earn.

This is in stark contrast to Labor’s last four years of government, where expenditures significantly outstripped revenues and the budget was in the red.

Since March 2014, there have been 13,500 jobs created, and Tasmania is now leading the nation in many key indicators, including having the fastest growing economy in the country, for the first time in 15 years.

These results do not happen by accident, they are a direct result of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s long-term Plan to responsibly manage our Budget, and ensure the right economic conditions are in place for Tasmanian businesses to create jobs.
